This novel makes use of many different and unique fields of science including biology, astronomy, engineering, chemistry and physics. These ideas interact with one another to make the story feel real and engaging. Instead of using unrealistic technology the characters utilize scientific thinking and experimentation to solve the many problems they come across. A major example of science in this novel are astrophages, the alien microorganisms which convert sunlight into pure energy. They essentially act as a mass conversion fuel source that threatens humanity and life on Earth.

Ryland must overcome difficult obstacles while learning and trying new things while pushing himself to his limits. The novel proves how curiosity, creativity and cooperation with science can accomplish great things. For instance, in many parts of the story Ryland must work in situations with extreme pressure. In summary, Project Hail Mary is an excellent book for readers who enjoy space, new technologies and the ability to solve massive challenges with science.
