HUBO robots are student-made humanoids designed with a collaborative effort between the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and are part of research at Drexel University. Four HUBOs put on a show with a performance of “Come Together” from The Beatles, with each one of them automatically playing an instrument designed by students at the Music and Entertainment Technology Lab at Drexel.

Drexel robotics program has wider research ambitions with regards to enhancing skills of humanoid robots, including their interaction with environment with increased proficiency and enhancing autonomous functions. These will help them transition into real-world environments and sense environment signals such as walls or sounds of vehicles approaching. The HUBOs robots were put through a series of tests under which various groups of engineers assembled them and programmed them with functions such as turning valves, opening doors, ascending a ladder, and driving a vehicle. These robots also help save human lives. Engineers at Drexel pioneered efforts at programming of HUBOs as part of rescue efforts during disasters so as to have them intercede during perilous situations rather than endangering emergency responders.
