Drexel
The HUBO robots. These humanoid robots were developed in collaboration with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and are used in research projects at Drexel. Four HUBOs performed “Come Together” by The Beatles. The robots operated autonomously, playing musical instruments designed by students in Drexel’s Music and Entertainment Technology Lab.
Drexel’s robotics program has broader research goals, focusing on advancing humanoid robots’ capabilities, such as improving interaction with their environment and enhancing their autonomous functions. They aim to enable these robots to navigate real-world spaces and recognize environmental cues like walls or sounds of approaching vehicles. The HUBOs robots were put to the test and were challenged. During the challenge, robots assembled and programmed by various teams of engineers attempted to operate valves, open doors, climb ladders, and drive a vehicle. These robots even help save lives. Drexel robotic engineers led an effort to program the HUBOS to save lives during disasters. The robots go to help in dangerous situation rather than risk emergency workers’ lives.
